A native of the Pacific Northwest, Dave Peck is recognized as an outstanding composer, arranger and pianist. He is known for his introspective style and rich harmonic coloring and has been described as “…a formidable musical voice, lyrical and insightful” and “…an absolute artist with a unique command of his instrument and the language of music”. Downbeat magazine says Peck’s playing is “lyrical and pastel, swinging and bluesy, with a ringing crystalline touch.” and Cadence Magazine says he “…can hang with the currently feted crop of young lions”.

Trio, his debut release as leader received rave reviews from critics, jazz radio stations and fans. It was voted ‘Earshot Jazz Northwest Recording of the Year (1998)’ and a ‘Jazz After Hour’s Best Northwest Jazz of 1998’.
Solo, released in 1999 was nominated for ‘Recording of the Year 1999’ and was a ‘Jazz After Hour’s Best Northwest Jazz of 1999’.
3 and 1 was in the Gavin Jazz Top 10, featured in the Cadence Magazine 2003 Writer's Poll and was voted ‘Earshot Jazz Northwest Recording of the Year (2000)’ and ‘Jazz After Hour’s Best Northwest Jazz of 2000’. Earshot Jazz magazine calls it "An album of intense musical and emotional range, 3 and 1 is a monumental recording."
Out of Seattle, which features Joe La Barbera and Jeff Johnson, was in the top 20 of the Jazzweek chart for nine weeks. Cadence says of this recording “Dave Peck’s trio can sweep you off your feet…” It made several “Best of the Year” lists including Top 10 Notable Jazz CD’s of 2002 for both the station and staff lists for WBEZ Chicago.
Good Road garnered raves from the jazz press, and received a ‘Jazz After Hour’s Best Northwest Jazz of 2005’, ‘WDET Detroit Highly Recommended New Jazz CDs of 2005’ and Dave and the trio were voted ‘Northwest Acoustic Jazz Ensemble of the Year’ along with honors for Good Road as ‘Earshot Jazz Northwest Recording of the Year (2005)’.

Dave was pianist and composer for legendary saxophonist Bud Shank from 1985-2000. Their collaboration led to the CD, Tales of the Pilot, Bud Shank plays the music of David Peck, released on Capri Records. Dave's compositions can also be heard on the Contemporary label on both Live at Jazz Alley and Tomorrow's Rainbow. As a pianist, he can be heard on Live at Jazz Alley and The Lost Cathedral. AS well as his work with Shank Dave performed as a sideman with many great musicians including, Chet Baker, Joe Williams, Sonny Stitt, Lee Konitz, Art Farmer and Clifford Jordan, Harry "Sweets" Edison and Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, Howard Roberts, Ernestine Anderson, Gary Peacock, Pete Christleib, Bob Cooper, Bill Perkins, John Clayton and Jeff Hamilton, Freddie Hubbard, and Claudio Roditi. His arranging and composition credits include grants from Meet the Composer and commissions for Bud Shank, Marco Silva, Syzygy, Composers and Improvisers Orchestra, Ernestine Anderson and Diane Schuur.

Dave has appeared on Piano Jazz with Marian McPartland. Ms McPartland says “Dave Peck is a pianist and composer who possesses great musicality, a sensitive touch and a lively sense of swing.” His performances and compositions have been heard on Jazz After Hours on PRI radio, National Public Radio's Jazz Alive, Jazz Journal, New Jazz Northwest, and Northwest Jazz on KPLU FM as well as VH1 and Canadian Broadcast Television. His music is featured internationally on terrestrial, satellite and internet jazz radio.

Formerly an Associate Professor of Music at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle Dave currently maintains a private teaching studio where he teaches Jazz Composition, Repertoire, Improvisation and Piano.

The Dave Peck Trio includes the brilliant Jeff Johnson on bass and the preeminent drummer Joe La Barbera. Both rhythmic and romantic, the trio uses the standard repertoire as a framework for new composition and form. Their work is rich, intuitive, and harmonically complex with a unique and signature sound.

Born In Minneapolis, Jeff Johnson left at age 20, to join Philly Joe Jones and his band. Jeff has played with a veritable who's who of great jazz musicians such as Charlie Rouse, Billy Hart, Barney Kessell, Chet Baker, Lew Tabackin, Eddie Daniels, Joanne Brackeen, Julian Priester, Bob Moses, Kenny Drew Jr., George Cables, and Hal Galper. Jeff has released 4 CD’s as leader including Free and The Art of Falling. JazzTimes says in its review of Free “Bassist Johnson is admired for his work with modern mainstream musicians…”. And Cadence Magazine says “Still, it is Johnson who captures your attention without being obvious. His bass lines are clear and distinct. He plays with a mystique that takes the music out of the ordinary with his inventive improvised lines…”. Jeff is currently on the road: playing with and leading various small ensembles; composing; and recording.

Joe La Barbera was born in Mt. Morris, New York to a musical family. He has enjoyed a long and varied career in music that has taken him all over the world with some of the finest names in jazz. In 1978 he joined Bill Evans in what was to become a landmark trio. Evans said of him “Joe is very dedicated to playing quality music and he’s a top soloist and he does the right thing at the right time”. He is regarded by his peers as a musical drummer and a supportive accompanist. Joe currently resides in Los Angeles and performs with his own quintet and as sidemen for Hank Jones, Bud Shank, Eddie Daniels, Alan Broadbent, Kenny Wheeler and brother Pat La Barbera. He is on the faculty at California Institute for the Arts and is a busy clinician and guest artist at many major universities here and abroad. Joe has appeared on over 130 recordings and CD’s.
